NEET Counselling Procedure to Follow

The NEET (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test) counseling procedure is the process through which candidates who have qualified the NEET exam can secure admission to undergraduate medical and dental courses in India. Here is a general overview of the NEET counseling procedure:

  1. Registration: Candidates need to register for NEET counseling on the official website designated by the conducting authority. They are required to provide personal details, NEET score, and other necessary information during the registration process.
  2. Choice Filling and Locking: After registration, candidates must log in to their accounts and fill in their preferred choices of colleges and courses. They can select multiple options based on their preferences. Once the choices are entered, candidates need to lock their choices before the deadline.
  3. Seat Allotment: The conducting authority will conduct multiple rounds of seat allotment based on the candidates’ NEET rank, choices, category, and availability of seats. The seat allotment result will be published on the official website. Candidates can check their allotted college and course and download the allotment letter.
  4. Reporting to the Allotted College: Candidates who have been allotted a seat must report to the allotted college within the specified time period. They need to carry their allotment letter, required documents (such as NEET scorecard, admit card, identity proof, educational certificates, etc.), and the prescribed admission fee.
  5. Verification of Documents: At the college, candidates need to undergo the document verification process. Original documents will be verified, and candidates may be required to submit photocopies for record-keeping. It is essential to carry all the necessary documents as specified by the counseling authorities.
  6. Payment of Admission Fee: After document verification, candidates must pay the admission fee as prescribed by the allotted college to confirm their seat. The fee payment can usually be made online or through other specified modes of payment.
  7. Freezing or Upgradation of Seats: Candidates who are satisfied with their allotted seat can choose to freeze their admission, which means they accept the allotted seat and will not participate in further rounds of counseling. Alternatively, candidates can opt for upgradation in subsequent rounds if they wish to be considered for a higher preferred choice.
  8. Subsequent Rounds of Counseling: If vacancies remain after the first round of counseling, subsequent rounds may be conducted for further seat allotment. Candidates who are not allotted a seat in the first round or wish to participate in subsequent rounds can update their choices and participate accordingly.

It is important to note that the exact NEET counseling procedure may vary each year, and candidates should refer to the official counseling information bulletin or website for detailed instructions and updates. It is advisable to stay updated with the official notifications and regularly check the counseling website for any updates or changes in the counseling schedule.
